Arsenal Captain Henry Out Of Champions League Group Decider Against PortoSubmitted by Niraj Prabhu on Wed, 22/11/2006 - 10:27.
Arsenal will be without suspended captain Thierry Henry for the Champions League group decider against Porto after he picked up three bookings. Henry was booked for pushing Hamburg defender Jons Mathijsen in the second half of Tuesday's win, making it three yellow cards picked up in the competition and meaning he is now suspended for the all-important clash with Porto. A draw in Portugal would be enough to send both sides through to the next round at the expense of CSKA Moscow. Wenger was full of praise for his side after they came from behind to win 3-1 on Tuesday. He said: "I could see Thierry was frustrated. He was held back by his shirt pulled on quite a few occasions. Of course it was a blow. We wanted to go to Portugal with Thierry, but now we will go and do it without him.” "It is a blow, of course, losing Henry for the game in Portugal," said Wenger. "But we will go there and do it without him. I'm sure both Porto and ourselves will fight for a win but if it finishes in a draw neither team need be disappointed." Arsenal have struggled to overcome teams at their new Emirates Stadium home after falling behind, but Wenger feels victory over Hamburg will be the shot in the arm his players need. He added: "This should convince our players they can come back from behind and win.” "They just refused to accept defeat and never felt sorry for themselves after hitting the bar and post after losing a goal." in favorites | email this page
