West Ham United and Argentina winger Carlos Alberto Tevez is close to agreeing to join Manchester United on a two-year loan, with officials from the club travelling to Venezuela to seal the deal.

Tevez is due to undergo a medical in Venezuela later today as Manchester United attempt to seal an initial two-year loan deal (with the option of a further three years) for the West Ham striker which could eventually be worth over £30million.

Manchester United ar hoping that they can get a deal agreed between Tevez’s adviser Kia Joorabchian, with an announcement possibly being made later on Friday.

West Ham are believed to be in line for a compensation payment for releasing Tevez’s registration to Manchester United, with West Ham already making an offer to Liverpool for Wales striker Craig Bellamy, who looks certain to move to Upton Park.

Tevez is currently in Venezuela on Copa America duty with Argentina, where he started in yesterday's 1-0 win over Paraguay in their final Group C match.

United are hoping that Tevez will be able to join Manchester United on their pre-season tour of the U.S.A once Argentina's role in the Copa América 2007 is over.

West Ham are understood to have had first refusal to sign Tevez on a three-year deal worth £40million, but decided to refrain and gave written permission to Joorabchian to begin negotiations with other clubs three weeks ago.

United will be hopeful of concluding the deal within the next 48 hours, beating Spanish Primera Liga champions Real Madrid, who have also shown interest, to his signature.
