Argentina Fan Website Launches Petition For Diego Maradona to Play in the Germany World Cup
An Argentinean fan has launched a new website campaign calling for Maradona to play in the World Cup 2006 tournament, to be hosted in Germany next summer. At the time of this writing, 18366 fans have signed the petition, while at least 20 people signed while the article was being prepared!
The petition calls for Maradona to play in at least the last 5 minutes of at least one Argentina match in the 2006 World Cup. The website has been gathering fan signatures and will present them to the National Football Federation and to the World Soccer governing body, FIFA.
A statement on the English version of the website reads "Nobody doubts that El Diego was the best soccer player in history.... but because of the story of his life, because of how he recovered from so many things and because of the emotions he generates still today, we want much more than that."
