Argentina Defender Gabriel Paletta Agrees Four Year Deal With Liverpool With The Under-20 Star Moving To Anfield In Summer

Liverpool FC have confirmed that a deal has been done to sign the promising Under-20 World Cup winning Argentine defender Gabriel Paletta, with the centre-back agreeing to a four-year contract.

In a surprising turnaround, just 24 hours after Atletico Banfield president Carlos Portell said that the deal for Gabriel Paletta wouldn’t be done until the end of the season, Liverpool have confirmed this morning that a deal has been concluded, with the young centre-back joining the Reds in the summer on a four-year contract.

Paletta, who celebrates his 20th birthday tomorrow, was a key figure in the victorious Argentine team that won the Under-20 World Cup last year, and has scored 5 goals in 33 appearances for Banfield this season.

Paletta says he is relishing the idea of the move to Anfield, and a chance to prove himself in the English Premiership.

Paletta said: “It would be a great opportunity. It would be a good move for the club as well as for me.”

He is the second Argentine player to join Liverpool, and it is to be hoped that he has a greater impact than Mauricio Pellegrino, who hardly featured for the Red’s in his time at Anfield.
