Argentina & Barcelona Star Lionel Messi Hoping To Be Fit For Arsenal Champions League FinalSubmitted by Scott Harkness on Sun, 30/04/2006 - 15:43.
Argentina and Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been in Buenos Aires re-visiting the hospital where he had a scan on the muscle injury in his right leg, that has kept him out of action for over a month. Messi received the injury during the first-half of Barcelona's Champions League match against Chelsea on March 8. The Argentina national team doctor Donato Villani, said on Thursday that he was pleased with the progress of the 18-year-old. “The injury is progressing well but we can not set a date for his return because that would put extra pressure on him,” said Villani. According to Villani, Messi’s medical treatment has been organised by his club-side Barcelona and said: “This guy is in Barcelona's hands. The only thing we did is to help Barcelona’s medical staff during their stay in Buenos Aires. “We’re in permanent contact with them so it won't be necessary for us to go to Spain to see Lionel.” Messi is expected to start training with the Barcelona again in the near future, with Barca hoping he will be fit for the Champions League final against Arsenal in Paris on May 17. Messi will no doubt be fit for the Albiceleste’s challenge in the World Cup Finals, where Argentina have been drawn alongside the Netherlands, Serbia and Montenegro and World Cup debutantes, Ivory Coast in Group C - nicknamed “the Group of Death”. in favorites | email this page
