Argentina and Villareal midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme has remarkably tipped Lionel Messi to outperform England’s Wayne Rooney at the World Cup Finals in Germany this summer.

The Argentinian playmaker even went as far as saying: “I do not believe Rooney is as good as Messi.”

Comparing the two is ultimately a waste of time, with both players having a different style of play, but if there is one thing that will help spur Wayne Rooney to success at this summer’s finals is the belittling of his talent by others.

To have to make a choice between Messi and Rooney would be impossible for any national coach, if he had the pleasure of having the choice, but as much as Rooney is integral to the England team, exactly the same could be said for Messi, but both players’ roles on the pitch are ultimately different.

At the end of the day, if both players are fit, there will no doubt be a wonderful display of talent from both these young stars in Germany, and one can only wait with baited breath for the World Cup Finals to begin.
