Aragones Happy With Dortmund Facilities, Hopeful That Real Madrid's Raul and Barcelona's Xavi Will Make it to the World CupSubmitted by Pavlos Skoufis on Sat, 21/01/2006 - 22:51.
Spanish Coach Luis Aragones inspected today Spain's World Cup Finals base in Kamen, near Dortmund. Germany used Kamen in the 1974 World Cup and in 1990. Aragones played down fears about Raul and Xavi missing Germany's World Cup Finals. "We wanted to have a place where we wouldn't have to travel to the training pitches and we've got that here. The rest of the installations are magnificent," Aragones said. Aragones also announced two extra international friendly fixtures for Spain, one against Egypt and one against Slovenia, just a few days before the World Cup Finals kick-off. However these matches are currently being arranged and have not been confirmed by all sides. The Spanish national football team will play against Ivory Coast on the 1st of March and against Russia on the 27th of April. Spain are seeded in the top spot of Group H in the World Cup 2006 Finals and will play against Ukraine, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. In other team news, Luis Aragones remained positive that Real Madrid's Raul and Barcelona's Xavi will be included in the World Cup Finals Squad. "I've been following their progress very closely. I saw Raul a few days ago and he told me that everything was going well and that he would recover in time..." "When I spoke to Xavi on the phone he also assured me that he was recovering well." Raul and Xavi are both suffering from knee injuries. Raul was injured back in November against the Real Madrid - Barcelona match and doctors initially said that they would miss the entire season and possibly the World Cup. Real Madrid's medical team planned a surgery operation on Raul, but it seems his wound is healing and will probably avoid going into the surgery room. Xavi had to undergo surgery on his meniscus recently and is awaiting Barcelona's medical team to assess if the operation was successful. in favorites | email this page
