Africa Zone Group 2 Overview - Ghana's Black Stars Look Certain To Qualify, DR Congo Hope For Slip-Up

Group 2 Overview:

Ghana look almost certain to qualify from Group 2, and participate in the World Cup finals for the first time ever.

Ghana have been African Nations Cup champions a record-equalling four times, but former ‘Black Stars’ giants like Abedi 'Pele' Ayew and Tony Yeboah have never been able to take the Ghana to the World Cup.

Along came coach Ratomir Dujkovic and all that changed. The Serbian Coach is a no-nonsense, decisive manager who takes insolence from no one. Samuel Kuffour will vouch for that having tackled his authority, publicly questioning Coach Dujkovic’s squad selection before the previous set of qualifiers, and come off a dismal second best having not been selected for the National squad since then.

Once the cultured defensive kingpin of Ghana, Italy-based Kuffour is now surplus to requirements despite apologising for making false claims over his absence from the squad.

Ghana top their group with 18 points, three above second-placed Democratic Republic of Congo, and need only draw in their last African zone Group 2 match away to the Cape Verde Islands to reach next year's finals in Germany.

The only other team in Group 2 to be able to qualify is the DR Congo. Their only hopes rest on a conclusive win at struggling South Africa, and substantial defeat for Ghana.
