DR Congo 2-1 Cape Verde Islands

The Democratic republic of Congo have leap-frogged South Africa to take second spot in Group 2 of the African qualifying Zone with a 2-1 win over the Cape Verde Islands in Kinshasa today.

First half goals from Mubiala for the DR Congo and Calo for the Cape Verde Islands saw the teams go into half time honours even. Mputu scored for the home team early in the second half and things remained the same, for a valuable win for the Congolese.

With South Africa losing to Burkina Faso 3-1 last night, and with their woeful goal tally, of ten goals scored, and with twelve against, and with the DR Congo with a goal difference of +4, it now very much looks like the South Africans are, without doubt, going to be excluded from next summers finals in Germany.

Currently topping the group are the "Black Stars" of Ghana, who, while all three teams are even on 15 points apiece, are still to play Uganda, which they are expected to win, and with their vastly superior goal difference of +7, it is likely that this will be far too high a tally for even the DR Congo to attain.
