South Korea's Dutch manager Dick Advocaat defended the risk he took in the second half in order to unlock Togo's defence and grab the three points in Frankfurt today, blaming the heat for the team's poor performance in the first half.

"I couldn't recognise the team in the first half," Advocaat said. "We knew we had to pressurise Togo early to make them nervous," said Advocaat. "But with the heat it was difficult."

In what was an exciting match to watch, South Korea's head coach said that even though his decision to change the system to 4 - 2 - 4 eventually turned out to be a success, by getting Ahn into the match.

"We took a lot of risks but luckily it turned out a success."

"They were so nervous and we couldn't create any chances. We made it very difficult for ourselves... It was a big risk to put Ahn on at the start of the second half. We went to 4-2-4 and normally teams kill you when you play like that.

"But it was a good move to bring him on. It was clearly a big success and he scored a brilliant goal. It was well deserved."

Jung-Hwan Ahn, whose goal on the 71st minute gave South Korea the lead, praised Advocaat's decision and said that it was decisive so that South Korea could win their first ever World Cup match on foreign soil.
