FIFA,The World's governing body for football, have been holding their annual conference, at which certain key issues are to be addressed, The conference, which is taking place in Marrakech in the north of Morocco, is being chaired by Sepp Blatter. Part of the agenda is to deal with issues such as the role of agents, match fixing and the interference by some governments in football affairs. To this purpose the setting up of a special task force to tackle some of the problems afflicting the sport was overwhelmingly approved. The new body, to be known as the 'For the Good of the Game Task Force' will target various groups.Without naming the organisation directly, Sepp Blatter harshly criticised the group of elite European clubs known as G14, "There is a movement in club football, which I don't necessarily consider a prime example of solidarity, because it leads us to conclude the rich are getting richer and they are using everything in the market to create an exodus from Africa," he said."The gap is getting wider and wider. This is a problem we should be concerned about." In other FIFA Conference news...East Timor and the island nation of Comoros were accepted as full members of Fifa , taking the number of national associations who comprise world football's governing body to 207 nations. Comoros, the Island group situated off the east coast of Africa joined the Confederation of African Football in 2003 following the formation of its FA in 1979. Their application to join Fifa was approved by a margin of 198 votes to three. CAF submitted the application on behalf of the Comoros at Fifa's centennial congress in Paris last year. "It is with great pride that I address this assembly to express Comoros Islands' happiness in joining the Fifa family," said Comoros Football Federation president Salim Tourqui. He added: "I thank the members of Fifa that have made us the 207th member." Apart from full voting rights at Fifa meetings, the Comoros are eligible to take part in the qualifying competition for the 2010 World Cup finals. in favorites | email this page
